We bought a beautiful ColdStone concoction for our beloved Ain on her 26th birthday, which she spent with us in Boston. (UPDATE: Ainsley and Josh are living with us for about 6 weeks this summer because Josh is doing an internship at Mass General Hospital.) The cake was a large strawberry shortcake thing, with the letters AIN scrawled in the middle. Perfection. We were thrilled when we saw it at the store.
Then we went to a yard sale on the way home and the cake totally melted.
With the Donna Summer song about this very phenomenon pounding in our heads, (well, Elise's head) we went to three different ice cream stores to find a replacement, and found that they only sold cakes with chocolate in them. Because Josh's only instruction was "No chocolate" it seemed that we would have to celebrate a cakeless birthday. We knew that would not do for our Ain, but time was running out.
Enter Dunkin Donuts. In our desperation, we decided to grab a couple sweet ones for the big moment, and we stuck some candles in them. It was kind of like a poor man's---pile of donuts.
I dunno, you be the judge. Ainsley, at least, was an excellent sport and said that she always dreamed of a cake like this one. We topped it off with some ice cream. (NOTE: Powder donuts and butter pecan are a little much when served together.) We're so excited that Ainsley, Josh, and Henry get to live with us this summer. More pictures to come later.

Oliver likes it! - Note to readers: the royal we was used throughout this post rather liberally.
Man, you've had a lot of one-of-a-kind cakes recently! Even if I didn't love donuts, I would still think this one was the coolest. So did the melted Cold Stone cake get all over the car? I felt so sad reading about that. A perfectly good Cold Stone cake, thrown out. Are you sure it couldn't have been frozen again and firmed up?
