Charlie and Cassie came to visit us in Boston a few weeks ago. The week they came was scorching hot--mid 90's every day with genuine East Coast humidity. But Cassie and Charlie were great sports. Charlie never even complained that we made him co-host a baseball camp for Caleb and 7 of his buddies, or that the kids referred to him as "Coach Lady Gaga."
Here we are at the Boston Harbor.
Jaynee was a dream that night when we went out to dinner. We ate at Durgin Park, and old haunt of Oma and Opa's where you can order baked beans and experience real Boston accents.

But Jaynee seemed more interested in making sure the pigeons had enough to eat. It was funny to see Chasey and Jaynee interact. At first Chase was deeply suspicious of her, and tried to take away any toy that she liked. But after 3 or 4 days, he LOVED her. He still talks about her. ("Jaynee is one. She sleep in the crib.")
We showed Cassie and Charlie all the important places--Boston Common, Harvard Square, the Lexington Green, Friendly's (Cone Head Sundae, anyone?), and Fenway Park. We had a lot of fun using Charlie's phone to Zillow the property values around us as we drove by, too. (FYI Lexington had the priciest homes, which shattered a little dream of Oliver's and mine.) But this trip wasn't all relaxation and fun. We stressed ourselves out trying to beat Pandemic, a new board game where you have to save the world from disease. Oliver even ended up getting sick himself after staying up until 2 a.m., trying to beat the game with Charlie.

And here's Oliver. On one of our last nights, we finally figured out how to beat the game: Cheat. Shamelessly. We made up our own rules, and finally saved the world from a pandemic. In one of those ironic twists, Oliver got everyone sick (for real) over the course of the week.
But we had a wonderful, wonderful time with Jaynee, Cassie, and Charlie! We miss you guys already.

You guys really like those long, multi-day games. Pandemic sounds interesting, but hard to beat. If you want to experiment with a new one, get Dominion. It takes about 1 hour to play, sometimes less. It recently came out, and it won tons of awards, like game of the year and stuff. The only problem is that I think you need someone that's already played Dominion to teach you how, since it's kind of complicated, and the instructions are kind of in German/English. (Translated word-for-word from German into English, so you get lost in a lot of the nuances that don't make sense in our language) But that's John and my new favorite game, and you actually can play with only 2 players! (I think it's 2-4 players.) So we're always happy to find a game that we can do on our own, that doesn't require us to invite over other people.
